The agency has released the Application Programming Interface (API) specs for four of its big repositories of information: its consumer broadband test, broadband provider database, license owner storehouse, and latitude/longitude to county converter.\n \"We want the FCC's Web presence to be larger than a single Web site,\" FCC Geographic Information Officer Michael Byrne posted on Tuesday. \"We want the developer community to run with these APIs to make mash-ups and data calls connecting FCC data assets to other sources for creative and useful applications to the public.\" \nAlthough the Commission has done a fine job of making its public filings much more accessible, that's only the tip of the vast data iceberg which is the FCC. The biggest challenge is figuring out where this juicy stuff actually resides at fcc.gov. \n \n \n \n\n\n Read the comments on this post<img src=\"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/digg/topic/microsoft/popular/~4/QVw9ijfm75w\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"/>
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t\t132\n\t\t\t</digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t<digg:category>\n\t\t\t\tTechnology\n\t\t\t</digg:category>\n\t\t\t<digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t\t30\n\t\t\t</digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<media:group>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t</media:group>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t\tarstechnica\n\t\t\t\t</digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t\t\t/users/arstechnica/l.png\n\t\t\t\t</digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t</digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t

\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\tAmericans Confused By Smart Grid, Want it Anyway\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
Despite not fully understanding what the smart grid is, a recent survey found the majority of Americans actually support it.<img src=\"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/digg/topic/microsoft/popular/~4/evk1rpNo3nc\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"/>
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t\t179\n\t\t\t</digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t<digg:category>\n\t\t\t\tTechnology\n\t\t\t</digg:category>\n\t\t\t<digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t\t46\n\t\t\t</digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<media:group>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t</media:group>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t\tGreenBiz\n\t\t\t\t</digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t\t\t/users/GreenBiz/l.png\n\t\t\t\t</digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t</digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t

\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\tA Look at 371 Recent High Profile Data Breaches\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
Security breaches happen every day to nearly everyone -- from banks to small businesses. It's not exactly the service I anticipated 3 years ago, but Google Scribe works surprisingly well. For example, I started to type \"This works sur\" and Google suggested \"This works surprisingly well\", which is exactly what I wanted to type. Instead of typing 14 characters, I could only type \"1\" or press Enter to select the first suggestion. \"Google Scribe provides text completion service. Using information from what you have already typed in a document, Google Scribe provides related word or phrase completion suggestions. In addition to saving keystrokes, Google Scribe's suggestions indicate correct or popular phrases to use,\" explains Google. The nice thing about this service is that you don't need to use Google's editor. You can add a bookmarklet to your browser and use Google Scribe in Gmail, Blogger, Google Docs or on any web page that includes text fields.Google Scribe only works for English right now, but I'm sure that Google will add many other languages in the future. If you don't like to see suggestions for all the words you type, enable the on-demand mode (Ctrl+Shift+J) and you'll only see suggestions when you press Tab.<img src=\"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/digg/topic/microsoft/popular/~4/vDp361LIgew\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"/>
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t\t743\n\t\t\t</digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t<digg:category>\n\t\t\t\t*\n\t\t\t</digg:category>\n\t\t\t<digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t\t113\n\t\t\t</digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<media:group>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t</media:group>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t\t0ldb0y\n\t\t\t\t</digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t\t\t/users/0ldb0y/l.png\n\t\t\t\t</digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t</digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t

\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\tGiz Explains: Why Everything Wireless is 2.4GHz\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
You live your life at 2.4GHz. Craigslist has stated it does everything it can to comply with government and legal stipulations and has an attorney manually screen all of its Adult Services ads. The company once said that 700,000 ads were manually rejected in just one year.Still, this hasnt stopped sex trafficking on the site, nor has it stopped the site from coming under harsh criticism for its business. In a recent poll, we asked if you thought Craigslists Adult Services section should be censored. Here are the results. Our readers are surprisingly liberal-minded about the Adult Services section. The vast majority of you (71.37%) said you thought the site should not be censored for a variety of reasons:Among our readers who thought the site should be censored, two-thirds found the Adult Services section objectionable because they felt it allowed Craigslist to profit indirectly from prostitution.Of those who thought the site and the adult sections should remain uncensored, almost half of you (46.15%) felt the censorship was unwarranted because prostitution should not be illegal in the first place. These broad-minded folks comprise almost 33% of everyone who voted in the poll.Others who were against the censorship in this case thought that Craigslists anti-prostitution policies were sufficient or stated another reason for opposing Adult Services censorship. As of this moment, were not sure if or when the sites adult section will be back online or why it was taken down in the first place. While prostitution isnt likely to become legal in the U.S. any time soon, well keep you posted on Craigslists dilemma as more details become available.More About: censorship, craigslist, prostitution, sexFor more Social Media coverage:Follow Mashable Social Media on TwitterBecome a Fan on FacebookSubscribe to the Social Media channelDownload our free apps for iPhone and iPad<img src=\"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/digg/topic/microsoft/popular/~4/V-w7qHaJN8o\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"/>
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t\t175\n\t\t\t</digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t<digg:category>\n\t\t\t\t*\n\t\t\t</digg:category>\n\t\t\t<digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t\t31\n\t\t\t</digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<media:group>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t</media:group>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t\tmashable\n\t\t\t\t</digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t\t\t/users/mashable/l.png\n\t\t\t\t</digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t</digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t

\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\tPS3 3.42 software update reportedly patches jailbreak, hates fun\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
Sony just released its 3.42 software update for PlayStation 3 owners. A team of talent from MIT has put its head down in order to concoct a new Android application that can come darn close to solving complex computational problems in just a fraction of the time that it'd take a bona fide supercomputer. The goal here is to let researchers and scientists convert to Google's mobile OS, but if you aren't falling for that one, it's also designed to \"let engineers perform complicated calculations in the field, and to better control systems for vehicles or robotic systems.\" Of course, the models that are hosted on the phone do require a supercomputer to create, but once certain formulas are embedded, the app can then compute approximations in mere seconds rather than hours. Best of all, rbAPPmit is available for download as well speak in the source link below, but we'd probably wait for the (presumably thick) user guide to surface before diving in headfirst.\n\n[Thanks, Alasdair]MIT app turns your Android phone into a supercomputer... of sorts originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 06 Sep 2010 17:10:00 EDT. suggests Galaxy Tab will cost between $200 and $400 -- also coming to Vodafone reports indicate Europe will pay a pretty penny for Samsung's Galaxy Tab, but the 7-inch tablet may cost a good bit less when it comes to US shores -- the Wall Street Journal paraphrases a Samsung executive who claims it could run between $200 and $300 depending on the all-important carrier subsidies. The Korea Times, meanwhile, suggests a $300 to $400 retail price according to a different Samsung bigwig, who added that the Tab \"will cost slightly more than the Galaxy S smartphone.\" As you're probably aware, Sammy's Galaxy S typically retails for about $200 in the US -- excepting Sprint's Epic 4G at $250 -- so if you held a bursting Li-ion battery to our head and forced us to guess, we'd say the latter range of dollar signs is far more likely. \n\nBy the way, Vodafone UK shows the Galaxy Tab as \"coming soon.\" Hit our more coverage link for details.\n\n[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]Samsung suggests Galaxy Tab will cost between $200 and $400 -- also coming to Vodafone UK originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 05 Sep 2010 18:16:00 EDT. One post that was of particular interest to me was David Beach's article from last week about developing for Android. Beach, who is a product manager at eBay Mobile and a co-founder of 12seconds, basically says that the experience sucks for a number of reasons (all of which Google can fix, but will take quite a bit of work and time). But one quote in particular stuck out to me:\nAndroid has succeeded despite Google. In fact it's safe to say that Android is successful for one primary reason. The iPhone is only available on AT&T. If the iPhone was on Verizon a year ago. Android would be no where near as popular.\nObviously, Beach isn't the first person to bring this idea up. But he brings it up in a way that he's able to back-up his feelings from a developers' perspective, while at the same time roping in what isn't ideal from a consumer perspective about Android as well.<img src=\"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/digg/topic/microsoft/popular/~4/S68yevkAWPA\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"/>
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t\t521\n\t\t\t</digg:diggCount>\n\t\t\t<digg:category>\n\t\t\t\tTechnology\n\t\t\t</digg:category>\n\t\t\t<digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t\t184\n\t\t\t</digg:commentCount>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<media:group>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t</media:group>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t<digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t\tcsdigger\n\t\t\t\t</digg:username>\n\t\t\t\t<digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t\t\t/users/csdigger/l.png\n\t\t\t\t</digg:userimage>\n\t\t\t</digg:submitter>\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t

\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t25 Essential Social Media Resources You May Have Missed\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t
Normally, we assume youve missed a few posts here and there because youve been outside enjoying the last days of summer. We are seeing a high level of investigative journalism, asthe New York Times calls it, that is within reach of the whole world. He also said that the Internet is, the most powerful weapon that has existed.\nCastro, however, isnt just an Internet consumer hes also apparently a prolific blogger (one of about 300 in Cuba). So now you know.\n(Note: Isolated Cuba does not have a fiber-optic connection to the rest of the world, and must rely on old underwater telephone lines and for satellite-based broadband to connect to the Internet. The LA Times editorial says that estimates put Cubas Internet penetration of between 2.6% -13% of the population depending on whether its based on international (the 2.6%) or Cuban government statistics (the 13%). Either way, Cuba has by far the lowest percentage of Internet users of any nation in the Western Hemisphere. Those that do have access face censorship and restriction as well.)\nOriginal title and link for this post: You Know Who Likes WikiLeaks?
